The challenge isn’t always about content knowledge or curriculum design. Often, it comes down to something more fundamental: students haven’t been taught how to regulate themselves. The Self-Control Model in teaching directly addresses this gap. Rooted in behavioral and social cognitive psychology, this model shifts the focus from external control to internal governance – helping students learn to manage their own behavior, motivate themselves, and take responsibility for their learning outcomes.

What is self-control in the context of learning?
Self-control, in an educational context, refers to a student’s capacity to regulate their emotions, behaviors, and thought processes in order to pursue long-term academic goals.
