Assessment has always been at the heart of teaching – but the how of assessment is changing rapidly. Not long ago, constructing a test meant typing questions on paper, printing copies, manually grading responses, and then trying to make sense of scattered scores in a gradebook. Today, a growing ecosystem of ICT tools handles all of this more efficiently, giving educators more time to focus on what actually matters: helping students learn. From quiz builders to analytics dashboards, these platforms are reshaping how tests are made and how results are understood.

What ICT tools bring to assessment

At its core, ICT in education refers to the application of digital technologies to support the processes of teaching, learning, and evaluation. When applied to assessment specifically, these tools move far beyond simple digitization. Research published in IEEE confirms that platforms like Kahoot!, Quizizz, and Google Forms measurably improve student concentration, motivation, and engagement when compared to traditional testing formats. The shift is not just about convenience – it is about making assessment a more informative and dynamic experience for both teachers and students.

Question variety is another benefit, since digital platforms support multiple-choice, true/false, short answer, essay, and even multimedia-based question types within a single test. Instant feedback allows students to understand their performance immediately after submission, rather than waiting days for a corrected paper. And data-driven insights give teachers granular analytics on student performance patterns, helping them adjust instruction where it is most needed.

ICT tools for constructing tests

The first step in digital assessment is building the test itself. Several platforms have become widely adopted in classrooms for this purpose, each with distinct strengths.

Google Forms

Google Forms is one of the most accessible starting points for digital test creation. The common thread across all these tools is that they shift assessment from a one-directional event (student submits, teacher grades) into a continuous feedback loop. When results are available instantly and analytically, teachers can act on them quickly – adjusting pacing, revisiting misunderstood concepts, or identifying individual students who need targeted support. That responsiveness is what makes ICT-supported assessment genuinely valuable in a classroom.
