Every classroom holds a remarkable mix of learners – students who process information differently, come from varied cultural backgrounds, have different physical and cognitive abilities, and arrive at school with vastly different prior experiences. A one-size-fits-all teaching approach simply cannot serve all of them well. Effective instruction in an inclusive classroom demands deliberate, flexible strategies that remove barriers and open learning up for every student. What makes instruction truly inclusive?

The University of Illinois Chicago’s Center for Advancement of Teaching recommends a “Plus One” approach: identify where students consistently struggle or disengage, and add just one more option at that point. - Choice-based tasks: Allowing students to showcase their knowledge through project-based learning – a poster, a podcast, a written report, or a presentation – respects different strengths and reduces the anxiety of a single high-stakes format.
Teaching aids and multi-modal instruction

Flexible assessment: rethinking how students show what they know
